Cagiva, an Italian manufacturer of motorcycles was founded in 1950 and originally produced only small metal components for other manufactures. The name Cagiva is taken from the founders name and manufacturer location; CAstiglioni Giovanni VArese. They went into the motorcycle manufacturing market in 1978, and at one time owned the brands Ducati and MV Agusta. They also produced motors and components for Suzuki, Harley Davidson and Ducati.
