By pb Ownership: When it goes, I'm giving it a eulogy Knowledge Level: Genius is my way of life Pros: i won't say it's the best device because i'm sure for more $$ there always is something better, but for the price, the 5 year warranty, and the good people @ VDC in New York! Cons: i paid more 5 years ago from another seller. Other Thoughts: for the guy complaining about defaulting to GEL after a power outage, IC what they are, and this being multifunction, if you RTFM you'd know GEL is the least harmful float charge V. no it's not where FLA should be set at but in your circumstance maybe visit once a week? after owning 1 for over 4 years it begun to restart every 3 minutes. call VDC, got my RMA, sent it, got a call from their repair, and got my replacment within 10 business days. when this thing craps out i'll be upset. By 3darch2@cox.net Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: I have saved 4 batteries from the dead already it works great Cons: Wish it had a battery tester incorporated into it. for volts and loads test. By hpcop Ownership: Use regularly Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: Does a good job of maintaining when your able to keep an eye on it. Cons: My motorhome is stored away from my home when it's not in use. I keep this maintainer hooked up while it's in storage. The problem is that if my storage area ever has a power outage, this maintainer defaults to a "gel" mode when power is restored. My batteries are "wet" lead-acid batteries. I'm not sure how this affects how they charge, but there must be a reason that it lets you select gel, AGM, or wet. By Joe Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: I haven't been able to resurrect an old battery (yet) but I'm convinced that this charger is trying hard and is the most sophisticated charger I've ever owned. Cons: None so far Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: simple directions, charged 3 r.v. batteries and lawn mower battery for the 72hr. period. So now we\'ll see. Cons: too early to tell By graysailor Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: I know what an outlet is Pros: I was having difficulty with my previous charger keeping my Optima battery charged. It would overcharge to the point where the charger and the battery were almost too hot to touch. I installed the BM12248 and within 24 hours my battery was charged and has remained charged. Cons: None at this time. Other Thoughts: Good product. I like the feature where you can set the amps and the type of battery that you are charging. By Chris Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: Genius is my way of life Pros: I am the Director of Operations at a large senior care facility. It is very difficult to tell if electric wheel chair batteries are bad or not. This device is what we have needed to diagnose these problems. We spend a lot of money on mobility scooter repairs. The device is well thought out and provides a good indication of battery condition. Cons: Being color blind using more LED's in place of multicolor LED's would have been a better choice Other Thoughts: Any electrically savy person would find this device of benefit in the testing of Lead Acid Batteries of all types! Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: Very flexible for almost any Lead-Acid battery type Temp sensor is VERY IMPORTANT and a great feature The leads are high quality Cons: the 2a setting is a little too much for 7.5ah SLA's - That's not really a con of the charger so much, as those are rated for 300-700ma, but I was hoping I could use it with batteries that small. The 2a setting worked great for a parallel set of 3 7.5ah batteries though. Other Thoughts: James at BatteryStuff was very helpful and responsive with my few emailed questions. Very patient guy. By Tom Ownership: Use regularly Knowledge Level: Electricity doesn't scare me.. usually Pros: I purchased this charger for the AGM battery bank I have in my boat. The boat has a charger but now and again I have need to charge individual batteries. This charger is perfect for that job. Good price...quick delivery...robust charger. I would recommend. Cons: None By Bob Ownership: Use regularly Knowledge Level: Genius is my way of life Pros: It doesn\\\'t got better than this. The BM12248 meets all its design perameters as described. it\\\'s compact, runs cool, and has brought back several 6-7 y/o, weak AGM batteries to full 100% charge and life. Remarkably, standing storage capacity, or, voltage retention over time characteristic as well as power delivery appear to be fully restored! Temperature sensor should be utilized on small to medium multi -cell AGM and Gel type batteries on four to eight ampere setting. It is unnecessary on large 60 AH+ batteries at the maximum 8 amp trickle charge rate rate of this unit. Be sure to bolt, clamp or securely tape sensor ring directly to the positive post of the battery being charged. Do not attempt to charge more than one battery at a time. However, fully charged multiple batteries of the same type (charactistic and voltage) may be maintained in parellel configuration (+ to + and - to -). Ampere hour capacity is critical even in the maintainance mode, as large batteries drop more quickly than small ones. Again, be sure ALL batteries are FULLY charged first. As a rule of thumb, never exceed four to six batteries in parellel per charger. Cons: Discerning between light colors will be difficult if you are visually color deficient. Ordinary red -green 3-D movie viewing glasses easily resolves this problem. Simply look through one lens at a time to determine color. By Bluto Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: Easy to use - self-explanatory labeling Ancillary components included WORKS WELL (brings Optimas back to life) Cons: If cost is no object..... (but when is cost NOT an object?) Other Thoughts: Between my brothers and myself we have a bunch of Optimas, some that see regular use, some that do not. When the redtops in my older Dodge diesel started to show their age (5 years old now) I decided we really needed something to desulphate an AGM. I have had a 12117 for 4 or 5 years, but never used it on an Optima, so I knew what they could do on a flooded battery. This one works great on AGMs. I added an ODB-12 on my truck for longterm use and hooked up the 12248 for a week and it acts like it has new batteries in it now. The tractor is hooked up now and the rv batteries are next in line. It will stay busy. Best buy for maintenance I have made in a while. By rab Ownership: Just Bought Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: going to install at christmas hollidays when not attending collage in my communications bunker/ loft. as a float system and desulpher on my back up battery . Cons: dont see any as i read the operating manuel sute me to a t Other Thoughts: as i said to robin i will be doing more transictions when i get time to look through your prouducts. excellent service received the parcel 6 days after placeing order.looking forward to doing buisines again your faithully r sinclair y By Bill Ownership: Use regularly Knowledge Level: AC/DC is more than a band Pros: Safe, simple, easy to use with an understandable instruction manual. Cons: In time it will revert to "Gel" setting from "Flooded" setting Other Thoughts: I have been a graduate electrical engineer and Ham for over 50 years so I chose this unit carefully. I use one at home, purchased one for the local Red Cross to keep their radio system ready, and two Ham friends bought them at my recommendations..We all like them. The units work as advertised and keep batteries in top shape. I use it to keep the 12v deep discharge batteries for my Ham station in top shape and move it from car, RV, or motor scooter as needed. Just works all the time. |
