Your entire web site is excellent. I have requested information acquiring a battery charger for my 1999 Ford Taurus which can charge and maintain the battery since the car has to sit unused for long periods of time frequently. I am looking for a solar battery charger which is over 5 watts in power has a solar controller to work with it. Thanks for a great site and for the many great articles.

Just an observation, the site states:
“You can lighten your load and go easy on the environment with lithium iron phosphate power sports batteries from BatteryStuff.com. An alternative to heavier lead-based batteries – as well as lithium ion batteries (which contain toxic lithium cobalt) – lithium iron batteries are stable, super light and made from non-toxic, more eco-friendly substances.”
This is not correct. This suggest lithium iron batteries are somehow different from lithium ion batteries. They are not, lithium IRON batteries ARE lithium ION batteries. Lithium ION is a general term.
That said. Lithium IRON batteries work very well. I would recommend them for most applications.

Lithium Ion is not the same as Lithium Iron Phosphate. They both have lithium (Li) in the chemical makeup, but they are bonded to completely different elements. Both batteries will typically have graphite coating the negative grid, but the positive grid can have a polyanion such as Iron Phosphate (FePO4), which is more stable, or the layered oxide of Cobalt (CoO2), often found in cell phone and laptop batteries.
There are also other types of lithium batteries, such as Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly).

I have been told not to link an AGM battery with a flooded battery in series, but not why I shouldn‘t. Can you tell me?

It‘s not recommended because the different battery types have different rates of internal resistance. When you create a battery bank, all batteries behave as a single unit. It‘s important to keep all the parts the same in terms of capacity, type, and even age. Doing this will enable best performance and longer overall battery lifespan.
