Overview
The OptiMate 5 VoltMatic TM-223 can SAVE & CHARGE all 6 V & 12 V lead-acid batteries. Simply connect the charger to the battery, the VoltMatic micro-processor automatically makes the correct charge voltage selection for a 6 V battery in any condition or healthy* 12 V battery and then proceeds to charging. Charge current is regulated according to connected battery size and condition. Leave connected for unsupervised months-long maintenance charging; OptiMate senses the battery condition, delivers charge when needed to keep battery at 100%.
* Manual over-ride for very low voltage 12V batteries is available.

It works well, but could be easier to use
This product does a good job of maintaining batteries. I question it's ability to save deeply discharged batteries. They claim "Saves low voltage sulfated batteries. Starts Charging from 1 V." In my experience, if the battery is deeply discharged the charger will detect it as a 6v battery (even if it's a 12v battery), and will only charge it to 6v. There is a way to override this, but it requires a trip to the owner's manual to determine how to force it into 12v mode. Even then, the battery will not fully recover it's full capacity. This device would be more useful if it was easier to set it for 6v or 12v (the "smart" setting it currently has will get it wrong if the battery is below 6 volts).
