Product InformationStore Part Number: Son2404SX

Overview

Protection provided: Reverse Polarity, Short Circuit, Over-Voltage, Over Current and AC Surge.
Soft Start and Stop; Starts and stops gradually. No sudden in-rush of current. This protects both the batteries and any other circuits connected to the charger. # SON2404SX
Suitable for U.S., Canada, other 115 VAC countries and Japan (100VAC).
Soneil’s Battery Charger transforms the 115 VAC into 24 VDC at about 100,000 Hz (1667 times faster than conventional charger), which requires a much smaller transformer and thus results in a unit of smaller size, low weight and improved efficiency. The 2404S uses sophisticated electronic circuitry with microchips. All present day computers use switch-mode technology.

Stage 1: Deep Discharge Charging Pulse Mode
The Charger starts charging at 0.5V and give pulse current up to 5V. This has effect of removing loose sulphation formed during deep discharge state of the battery.

Stage 2: Constant Current Mode (CC)
The charger changes to constant current 2A. When the battery voltage reaches to 28.8V, the charging stage changes from (CC) Constant Current to CV (Constant Voltage) mode.

Stage 3: Constant Voltage Mode (CV)
The charger holds the battery at 28.8V and the current slowly reduces. When the current reaches at 0.5 C (C= Battery Capacity), this point called the Switching Point. The Switching Point is one of the great features of this battery charger that it can adjust the current automatically according to the battery capacity. Other chargers without microprocessors are not capable of adjusting the current automatically.

Stage 4: Standby Voltage Mode
The charger maintains the battery voltage at 27.6V and the current slowly reduces to zero. Charger can be left connected indefinitely without harming the battery.

Recharging:
If the battery voltage drops to 27.6V, the charger changes from any mode to Constant Current mode and restarts charging. The charging cycle will go through Stage 2 to Stage 4.

This charger typically ships without output connectors, allowing customer to adapt the charger to their specific needs.

Very satisfied
Pros: May be the best thing you could ever do for your battery. The smart, 4 stage charging allows you to hook it up and forget about it. Much better than the OEM charger that came with my mower that had to be closely monitored to avoid overcharging and blowing up the battery.
Cons: You do have to be very careful about not getting it wet.

Bulk Charge Top Voltage Is Close To Spec.
Pros: Top Voltage on Bulk Charge topped out at 28.95v.dc which is slightly higher than the 28.8v max. specified for AGM type batteries. This doesn't look like a battery life-shortening issue. Some chargers I have tried went up to 29.6v, which is way too high, shortening battery life.
Cons: Not Having An Output Connector (XLR type).
Other Thoughts: Works well, so far.

Great Replacement
Pros: This unit replaces the original one from the manufacture on our stair-lift chair. Batteries were completely dead, but in about eight hours, up to full charge.
Cons: Connector end was wrong. (supposed to have none) Had to cut off and rewire the other chargers connector on to output line.

Soneil 2404SX
Pros: Compact and simple to use. Advanced circuitry for true 4 stage charging. Way more advanced, safer and better for the battery than the original equipment provided by the OEM with my cordless lawnmower.
Cons: Seems to be very susceptible to water damage. Be extremely cautious about exposing it to any kind of moisture. I used mine for less than 30 days and then it got lightly rained on. Not soaked or dripping wet, but it fried the unit.
Other Thoughts: The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the fact that it does seem to be easily damaged by even a small amount of moisture.
