Product InformationStore Part Number: RTIC-1120

Overview

The ChargeTek RTIC1120 is a sophisticated 12 volt 20 amp battery charger. It can be used as either an on-board or portable unit.

Charging is controlled by an embedded microcontroller that contains software developed and proprietary to ChargeTek. This electronic brain insures the battery will be fully and properly recharged regardless its condition. The RTIC1120 precisely controls charging voltage and current to insure a complete recharge every time. The charger may be left connected indefinitely to the battery, maintaining full charge at all times.

The RTIC 1120 utilizes state of the art high frequency power processing that converts the AC line power to 12 VDC efficiently and safely. The charger is completely waterproof and sealed with UL approved 94VO flame retardant epoxy. This sealing also provides extreme vibration and shock resistance since the encapsulated unit is effectively a brick.

The #RTIC1120 can be used with Wet Cell and most AGM batteries.

Great Product
Pros: I use these units (I own two) simultaneously as DC power supplies and chargers, on my production sound cart. My multi-channel audiophile recording studio on wheels draws about 10amps at 12VDC, and I float the \"1120\" over an MK 71AH 12VDC battery. The gear, both analog and digital, doesn\'t seem to mind the voltage umping back and forth between 12 and 14 volts (when charging the battery in \'high\' mode) and the result is a three hour UPS! Several of my associates also use this product in this manner, and the Warner Bros. Sound Department in Hollywood uses this unit on all of their carts.
Cons: It would be great to have the same performance and reliability in half the space!

RTIC-1120
Pros: Recently purchased my third RTIC-1120. Up until last month, I've felt that these units were THE solution for mobile production sound recording carts using large capacity sealed lead acid or AGM batteries. That they are 'marine grade' is a huge plus. My cart draws almost 10 amps of 12VDC, and I use the RTIC-1120 as a power supply and battery charger simultaneously. When the unit jumps voltage in order to rapid charge the 79 amp East Penn AGM battery, the jumps are smooth enough that none of the digital equipment in the system (recorders, computers, etc.) seem to mind, and with the battery, the unit is essentially a UPS that can run my cart for three hours without 120VAC. I also keep one on my truck for charging my smaller capacity East Penn AGMs (35 AH).
Cons: Until recently, the only incident of a RTIC-1120 failing that I was aware of, was at Warner Brothers Sound Department (which owns several of the units) when one of the RTIC-1120s was accidentally fed 240VAC. Then, last month, the RTIC-1120 on my camera truck died for no apparent reason, but I suspect it may have been exposed to a severe over-voltage. I replaced it immediately, and the new unit is fine.
Other Thoughts: Though it would obviously be more costly, a version of the RTIC-1120 that accepted a wide swing of AC input (up to 260 VAC would make it an international favorite!) would be great!
